Ryuk is a Shinigami, or God of Death, from the manga and anime series Death Note. He first appears in the initial chapter of the manga and the first episode of the anime.
Bored with the monotony of the Shinigami realm, Ryuk drops his extra Death Note into the human world in hopes of finding entertainment. The Death Note is a powerful notebook that allows its user to kill anyone simply by writing their name while picturing their face.
Ryuk is characterized by his monstrous appearance, including long limbs, feathered wings, and sharp teeth. He is often portrayed as mischievous and enjoys watching the chaos and destruction that the Death Note brings to the human world. While Ryuk spends much of his time in the human realm alongside Light Yagami who finds the Death Note, Ryuk is a neutral observer rather than an active participant in Light's plans. He is primarily motivated by his own amusement.
